Ryan Phillips is the founder of Smart Fire NZ’s dynamic duo. One of Panama Square’s first desk residents, SmartFire has been in the building since it opened in early 2019.
Ryan answers a couple of questions for us:
How long has Smart Fire been in business?
In one sentence, tell us what you do.
We design fire protection in buildings for life safety, property protection and firefighter safety to meet compliance with the NZ Building Code (including Fire engineering design, Emergency lighting and Evacuation schemes).
How did you end up doing what you’re doing?
After leaving the NZ Fire Service as a paid Firefighter, I have naturally progressed back to my passion in fire-safety, albeit in a cleaner role.
Favourite place to holiday?
Queenstown – mountains, lake and Fergburger.
What is your favourite project you’ve worked on so far?
Hills Apartments – previously Hills Laboratory; Converting into residential units.
What do you do in your spare time?
Head straight to the bush to hunt, build LEGO creations with my kids and mountain bike.
If you had to change industry, what job would you choose?
It would have to be a helicopter pilot within the Airforce.
