Designwell’s design directors Alexander and Kristin Wastney, along with their talented team, have been Panama residents since 2017. Designwell started with a couple of permanent desks at Panama House before moving to a small office at Panama Cottage. They now reside in a spacious office on level one at Panama Square.
Alexander answers a couple of questions for us:
In one sentence, tell us what you do.
We're a design studio passionate about Hamilton and it's people. We create strategic brand identities and shape vibrant commercial interiors across hospitality, office and retail.
How did you end up doing what you’re doing?
We're creatives that believe in solving problems by bringing together a wide set of design "disciplines". We started Designwell with the belief that New Zealand needed a design studio with this multi-disciplined approach.
What is your favourite project you’ve worked on so far?
Mr Pickles Eatery in The Riverbank Lane.
What do you do in your spare time?
We like to explore different spatial environments, new bars and restaurants and also new office designs. Some of us like to bake.
If you had to change industry, what job would you choose?
What do you love most about Hamilton?
Where do you go for Saturday brunch?
We have two young kids so tend to brunch at home these days. Otherwise, Mr Pickles or Hayes Common.
